CEL deliver high quality, cost competitive electronic assemblies to the automotive industry.
We operate directly as a Tier 1 supplier to the car companies and as a Tier 2 or Tier 3 supplier to other System Integrators in the Industry.
The products we deliver are based on our technical design expertise and our capability as a world-class manufacturer of electronic assemblies.
CEL provide ‘turn-key’ system solutions based on individual customer requirements from design through production to customer service support.
All of our Research, Development and Manufacturing is carried out at our QS9000 approved facility in Tuam, Co. Galway. Ireland.

Product Areas

  • Automotive Telemetry Systems

Today, the majority of vehicles are supplied with a key fob transmitter for remote locking and unlocking.
When the user presses a button on the transmitter it sends a coded RF (radio frequency) signal to the car. This signal is detected by a receiver located in the car.The base-band data from the receiver is processed by an Electronic Control Unit (ECU) which controls the Central Door Locking (CDL) system in the vehicle.
This technology is very specialised and CEL have developed the relevant RF and System expertise in our R&D; group since the 1980’s. CEL currently supply RF system solutions for many of the vehicles manufactured in Europe.

The concept of being able to control the locking and unlocking of the car from a distance can also be extended to other aspects of the car e.g. To turn on or off the lights, control the HVAC system or operate the vehicle alarm, using the same RF technology.

Remote control RF system design is the core competency within CEL.

We research, design and develop Automotive RF (Radio Frequency) RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) Systems for all the leading European Automotive manufacturers. We are a leading design authority for Low power transmitters and radio receiver systems in the 300MHz to 1GHz, UHF band. All of the R&D; in this area is aimed at providing ‘turn-key’ solutions to the RKE requirements of the Automotive Industry.

CEL are also active in advanced research projects to develop the technology required for the access systems of the future e.g. Passive Entry & LF (Low Frequency) communication.

  • Body Electronics & Power Management

This is a growth area within CEL’s product range. To date we have focused on the development of Vehicle Security Systems, Lighting Control units and Fan Control units.

International Legislation e.g. CAFÉ directive (Corporate Average Fuel Efficiency) together with an increasing awareness toward a ‘Green Environment’ i.e Less pollution demands that the vehicles of the future become more efficient.
These demands will be attained by developing more efficient, cleaner engines together with a switch toward alternative Energy sources e.g. A complete Electric vehicle.
As the electrical and electronic content of vehicles increases, there will be a greater need to manage the available electrical energy.

Our future plans will also focus on expanding our expertise to develop a range of products to control and manage Electrical Energy within a Vehicle.

    • Efficient DC : DC converters for the emerging 42V market.
    • Radiator fan motor control systems.
  • Microwave Sensor

CEL have carried out significant research into the use of Microwave Sensors within the Automobile. Having considered the applications open to this technology, we reviewed the solutions available in the marketplace at the moment.

CEL have established that there is considerable room for improvement in the accuracy and ‘intelligence’ of these type of sensors. Hence we have embarked on the development of a range of Micro-Power Pulse Doppler Motion sensors operating at 5.8GHz.

  • Automatic Test Development

CEL manufacture and test approximately 2M RF Transmitters & Receivers annually. All these units are supplied to the Automotive industry, where highest Quality standards are applied.
CEL have developed innovative Automatic Test Equipment to carry out 100% Functional Testing of all product. We continue to invest expertise in this area to further automate and improve out specialist test techniques.
